TORONTO, ON, June 22, 2019 – The Sikh community in Greater Toronto Area held a 2nd candle light vigil for the victims of Air India Flight 182 at the memorial monument at Humber Bay Park West. Candles were lit and prayers said for the 329 people killed, including 280 Canadians and 86 children, in the 1985 bombing which remains the worst aviation disaster in Canadian history.
A wreath and flowers by all attended were offered at the plated names of the victims.
“We stand in solidarity of all 329 victims, their families, relatives and friends as well as the Canadian at large who were affected by this tragedy” said Sukhminder Singh Hansra, senior member of Shiromani Akali Dal Canada East (SADA CANADA).
“We also call upon the Government of Canada
for a new commission of inquiry with an absolute mandate to fully investigate the tragedy” said Hansra
A letter of demand will be sent to the Prime Minister`s office.
“We are interested in finding who planned, funded and carried out this henious crime. We are not interested to see an apology after 100 years for an ignorance of the Governemt of their duty” said Hansra.
The memorial event at the Air India Flight 182 Memorial in Humber Bay Park East was attended by several dozens Sikhs.
