OTTAWA, ON, June 2nd 2018 – Nearly thousand Sikh men, women and children from across Ontario and Quebec gathered at the Parliament Hill today to mark a 34th anniversary of third ghalooghara (the Operation Blue Star), an army assault on the Holiest Shrine of Sikhs, Sri Darbar Sahib also known as Golden temple. Over 30,000 Sikh pilgrims including women and kids were killed with army bullets. This gathering also marks the 3rd anniversary of Sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
“We stand on the free land of Canada, pledge that we will never forget 1984, nor we will let our generations forget the genocide of Sikhs by India.” said Sukhminder Singh Hansra president of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar Canada East (SADA Canada). “The attack on Sri Darbar Sahib can only be termed as an organized and systemic genocide of Sikhs” added Hansra
“As per the saying “JUSTICE DELAYED JUSTICE DENIED” the Government of India is in systematic denial of the justice, therefore we ask the International communities to hear our case help us attain the RIGHT TO SELF DETERMINATION” Hansra told the gathering.
“As concern Canadians we are worried of well being of our brothers and sisters caught within the boundaries of India” said Avtar Singh Punia, a key organizer of the event. “We thank all Gurdwara committees who sponsored buses from Toronto, Hamilton and Montreal for Sangat” added Punia.
The chief guest at the gathering Bibi Pritam Kaur, who`s husband Shaheed Bhai Rachpal Singh was PA of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwala. Her son was 18 days old when he was killed by Indian Army bullet. She shared her moments with Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindrasnwala just prior to his shaheedee. It was an emotional moment when she told the gather that Sant jee asked me to shout five jaikaras at the time of my fate. This was an indication for me that I should live on and serve the panth. Jathedar Santokh Singh Khela, president of Guru Nanak Darbar Montreal Gurdwara said “remembering our Shaheeds once a year is not enough. He urged the gathering to meet the objective set by those who sacrifice their lives.
“While we are honouring and commemorating the victims 1984, we are also celebrating the rights and freedoms we enjoy as Canadians said Manveer Singh who Emceed today`s event.. There’s no way the Indian government would tolerate an event of this kind.”
The gathering also commemorated the 3rd anniversary of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab. We support Singh Sahib Bhai Dhian Singh Mand and other Sikh leaders who are sitting on Dharna in Bargari. We ask the Punjab Government to take action against those responsible for sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee.
